I've ordered my first razor and strop from "The Classic Edge", and subsequent reading has convinced me that a decent brush and soap are also necessary.
I can't really tell which ones from all the choices would be best, any tips would be great :-)
It would be too easy if you could go to a chart and match the best choices. Unfortunately it's not that easy. Most folks will tell you their favorites. Soap one will like you may hate for a number of reasons. Many will tell you to get a softer brush for cream and stiffer for soaps. Personally I think you just need to get what you like and it will work fine. Even the floppiest brush in the world will work fine with the hardest soap.

Look for something in the middle. I did and haven't left.
All other things being up to standard, the brush is one of the most important parts of my shave. My skin tends to get rather easily irritated by an overly aggressive or hard brush. I have a shavemac silvertip that I've never had any problems with. All of my other brushes just sit on the shelf now.
Softer is always better, in my opinion. At the very least, I would NOT recommend buying the cheapest brush you can get your hands on. Go for the best hair you can afford.
This is the best place to start. You may get it right the first time but if not you'll have a good idea which way to go from there.Quote:
