lather! I have made lather!

The title is to be read ala Tom Hanks in Castaway to the scene where he first achieved making fire on the deserted island.

So, I used a different soap today, VHD deluxe shave soap, and what do you know? It's not my technique. I lathered up enough for 2 shaves and added glycerine taking my scuttle to 4 shave amounts. It was *everywhere* and I was ecstatic.

For those of you who didn't know, I'd been having a real issue making anything close to being called lather. I have hard water and it seems that my Musgo and hard water is just a non-starter no matter how long or what method I tried.

I will hold onto the Musgo and use it with bottled as see whats up.

But seriously, I'm a happy shaver. Best shave so far yet. Number 8.

Congrats on getting a good lather. It took me forever to figure it out. And just think it can only get better the more you do it.

It's great to find a way to get where you want. Now you know the extremes almost. The other is when you open the closet door and soap dishes come crashing down on you. :<0)

I've actually dedicated scuttles to the two soaps as I don't use separate lather scuttles. Puck simply sits on the bottom, gets rinsed out when done and left to dry for next use.

I've been told that Proraso with Eucalyptis(sp) is supposed to be easy lathering as well(the green one, I believe). But, dang, you can't beat the price of VHD at Walmart. What is it? $1.97??

Well, the cheap stuff(VHD $1.97) is what got me the uberlather, brother. I'm cool with that. The Musgo was like $10. When you're on a tight budget, you'd use the fat offa the fleshin side of a stag's hide.

Yeah, the Proraso soap in the green tub is the easiest soap for me to lather. It's a very soft soap, 1/2 way between a soap and a cream, really. I always put a little bit of hot water in the tub as I shower. I always find soaps harder to lather than creams. It's great to get to the stage as you have where you've got it worked out, but if you want easy to lather creams you can't go past Tabac, Musgo Real, Irisch Moose, C O Bigalow, Body Shop Macca Root (it basically lathers itself) and TOBS products, in my opinion...

Creams are more expensive than soaps, no? I like to make cream(lather, basically) from soap now that I have a modest soap that will comply.

Soaps are a funny thing for me. I have just purchased some of those ummm artisan soaps ? Anyway, my first trails with them was less than appealing. They lathered up great but disappeared on my face before I got to it. I go back once in awhile and for some reason they are lasting longer each time. Which is great because then I won't be wasting 4 pucks of soap :<0) And they stink reeeaal gooood. Soap "the other learning curve". Cheap or expensive, what ever works best !

Don't give up on that Musgo. Get your bottled water on it and enjoy a really nice and slick lather. Under normal water conditions, Musgo lathers easily and rich.

Yes, they are, but unless you're astonishingly poor you should be able to afford a cream. Some creams (like Body Shop) require ridiculously small amounts to make a lather and will last a LONG time. Plus you can make a nice Überlather. I haven't tried Musgo real soap, it may differ greatly from Musgo Real cream.

Having said all that, I respect your decision and ability to make a lather from soap, it certainly can be very trying...

Not necessarily, some if the cheaper soaps and creams can be pretty good.

Generally, that is true however, in the case of VDH soap it is not. VDH soap is great stuff it just happens to be affordable. It's available everywhere, super slick and lathers like a champ. What's not to like? It's definitely on my list of affordable stuff that works like a charm (see also: Arko Shavestick). There's a ton of difference between cheap and affordable.
