Yep, the Second Razor Made a Difference

I ordered a second razor from SRD after only 3 - 4 weeks of using a straight. I felt like my technique had improved significantly, my I still was experiencing (what I thought) was an unusual amount of pulling and tugging. I concluded that I had dulled the first razor during the first few weeks of the learning process. I was too impatient to wait for the first razor to be honed, so I jumped in and bought another. Finally, for the first time this morning, I feel like I got a presentable, pain free shave! It's still not as good as my DE shave (and it takes almost 3 times as long), but I feel like I can walk confidently without cuts or missed patches all over my face. Thanks to all for the continued tips and encouragement.

I think that will be my plan of attack, having a second razor on hand when I get started. I've got a straight on the way (should be here in a day or so) and then it's off to the races getting it cleaned and honed for First Shave Day; until then- and continuing as my backup plan B- I'll keep my DE on hand.

Yep, my first is back with SRD for the free honing and my second is on the way from the classifieds right here. I lucked into what I'm told is a 'great shaver.' Provided I don't do anything STOO-PID, I won't be without a SR ever again...

Your speed and technique will improve to the point your DE gets rusty :<0) Okay so you won't let it rust but it sounds like your doing better each shave and learning experience. Good for you !

DCB2, I'm the guy who grabbed the Fontana 6/8 off the Classifieds.
It will be my first one with 'a history' and as such represents Old Solingen...at least that's what I'm told.

I opted for the basic 5/8 Dovo Best Quality. I'm really happy it with it and I feel like I'm finally getting respectable shaves after a lot of missteps. Like you, though, I think that my next purchase is going to be a vintage razor. I've been watching the razors at Our Online Shop. You should check it out if you haven't seen it yet. There is a very nice selection of vintage straights and Bob has very good reviews from the online crowd.
