Got my startup set today.

I made a special trip to Boston to the Art of Shaving on Newbury Street. I got an excellent straight razor shave from a gentleman named Jose and also picked up my Stainless Steel scales Theirs-lessard Razor along with a Pure Badger brush and a strop from TL as well. I got the full size kit in the lemon scent. I look forward to using these products and learning the skill of shaving now that I have a razor. They said that the stainless scale razors that have recently been received are shave ready. After a little stropping as advised. But with the pointers I got from the staff there and the endless help and advice that I have read on this forum I have the confidence to move forward and use my razor with less fear of lopping my nose or ear off.

Sounds like a nice set but one question. You said they said the razors were coming in shave ready. We're they referring to a factory supplied edge? If so it's not really shave ready. I'd suggest you get it honed before using. It's your best chance of having a good experience.

Congrats on the purchase! I have the lemon pre-shave oil and shaving cream as well and like them both quite a bit. As stated above, you may want to clarify the definition of 'shave ready' in this circumstance

X2 I would look under member services and get it honed properly. good luck

I purchased that same razor about a year ago and it was not shave ready by any means. Do yourself a favor and send it out for a professional honing. From my experience it was a hard blade to shave with even after a pro honing so don't do yourself a disservice.

Good luck and enjoy. The Sandelwood scents from AOS are just amazing. I agree with the above, send it out to be honed. I got my nephew into straights and I picked up the same stainless razor and was told the same, not even close to shave ready. If you send it my way I would be happy to slap a couple laps down on it. It only took a couple quick laps on the 8k 12k to be shave ready and popping hair

I'm sure you will enjoy your new razor etc for years to come. Just do two things. Read as much as you can on this forum, especially in the beginners section. Also realize that your razor MAY not be "shave ready".

Thiers issard makes top notch razors. There is nothing wrong with using it to shave right away. Start with a small, easy part of your face. Experiment a bit.

If the razor seems dull just send it out for honing. Look under the classifieds for "member services". That's where the pros have their ads.
