amidoinitright?
Hey all! Couldnt find an already existing appropriate thread, but heres my problem: I recently bought a g.h . weyer imperial sraight razor and have been shaving with it for about two weeks. Pre shave I strop it about sixty strokes with a denim block I made. Well the problem is that when I shave my face it leaves me with stubble. I tried it on my leg and it shaved it all the way down. Does it need honing, more strop? Any help would be appreciated.

Wellcome to SRP,needs to be pro honed.

Thanks, so is it okay to use a denim strop? Ive heard people argue both ways.

Do you not have a leather strop? I want to say something a little smoother would make the edge more keen than just the denim. If you don't have the leather try stropping on newsprint on a hard flat surface.
Just stropping on denim imo is like just stropping on linen, it will help but isn't getting it to where it should/could be.

One of the things that I would question is your skin prep or your stretching…if it's shaving hair on your leg without tugging or problems then it's most likely not the blade.
Try mapping out your hair growth and stretch the skin accordingly to raise the hairs, as well as making sure your hair is well saturated and that you have a good slick lather.
Also, if you don't have a leather strop then you should get one…they are a necessity when using a straight.

No I dont have a leather strop I am in the process of making one though. And yes it does shave my leg hair pretty easily, so I thought maybe its a technique problem. My facial hair is thicker than my leg hair if that matters.
Update: so I used some newspaper for about 160 strokes and got my closest shave yet. Verdict: I need a good strop, ill probably buy one instead of fumbling through diy. Thanks to all who helped.

Happy you had a better result but first you never need to do 160 circuits when stropping. Second if the razor has never been properly honed do yourself a favor and get it done.
