Are you looking for Custom Scales or Prefab?
Try maggard razors..google search.. Cutting edge razor if there still around..also search ebay
Im not sure which is which. Im new to straight razor shaving. Got a few vintage straights that shave great and barely have any rust but the scales suck.
Custom Scales are made for the specific razor or design. Prefab ones are generic, like these here.
Are the scales cracked warped.? If not a lot of them can just be cleaned up.. And will start to look good again.. I usually use blue magic to polish and clean my blades as well as my scales.. Custom scales can get costly..and regarding custom and prefab exactly what catrentshaving said..
The problem is the scales are loose. They have a bit or warping to them
very light taps on the pivot pin can tighten that up. Warped scales are tricky and you might want to go with new. Contact Brad as suggested by Catsrentshaving Restoration Supplies | Maggard Razors - Straight Razor Restoration, Custom Scales and Wet Shaving Products He does both
Before you break out the scales make sure you check the blade as sometimes the scales are warped because the blade is also.
Awesome. If I were to purchase a few sets of these scales (Restoration Supplies | Maggard Razors - Straight Razor Restoration, Custom Scales and Wet Shaving Products) would i have everything i need to learn to rescale?
It would be a start. Scales are not just one size fits all. Blades are different thicknesses as well as different lengths from pivot to toe. There are a few things to consider. However Brad has done a lot of restoration work and would be a helpful person to buy supplies from and should be able to point you in the right direction.
cool! I'd be lost without this forum! Thanks to you guys, I'm getting great shaves and learning new hobbies.
I have also learned a lot here. It is a very sharing bunch. Good luck with the pinning and watch the videos in the wiki. It can sometimes be challenging.
It probably wouldn't hurt to just see how a razor is pinned. Here's a thread/video that takes you through the process. http://straightrazorpalace.com/works...tml#post875983
:gl: and enjoy!! :D

And you will need some tools.. Of course I believe in the workshop there is a sticky on this..
Rod, washers, anvil or block of steel, 3 to 4oz. ball peen ( nice smooth round one) flush cutter and a small file might help a lot.
Drill press is REAL handy.
Woah woah 10pups don't scare the guy off... All you need is a hammer ;-) oh you want ur pins nicer you should buy a chasing hammer... Oh you want them shiney... You should buy a jewelers buffing wheel... So u want to make your new scales? Buy a belt sander... That's how they did me in.... Step by step until I was too deep
