Default Skin irritation after barber visit

I got a cut in a well known Dublin barbers around a year ago. My neckline was trimmed with an open razor and I remember thinking it stung a bit, but at the time didn't think anything more of it.

A few weeks passed and I visited a different barber. The first thing they said was "Goodness, what happened to your neck?" Upon viewing it in the mirror the red blotches were immediately clear. I explained and they said that the razor was most likely the culprit. It sounds crazy, but I hadn't noticed the issue since the previous haircut (how many times do you look at the back of your neck in the mirror?)

Anyway, the end result is that a year later, the redness has subsided a little but is still very much there. Not so much irritating but very visible since my hair is fairly short at the back.

    My questions are:-

    1. What could have caused it - from memory the blade was taken from or dipped in a glass of fluid on the shelf?

    2. What is the issue likely to be and is there a simple treatment, or is it a visit to the doc?

It could be a number of things. My advice would be to go to the doctors and get it checked out.

I wholeheartedly second that motion. I'd suspect something was wrong if the redness hadn't subsided after a few days, let alone weeks or a full year. Let the medical professionals figure it out.
