Thiers Issard
Just noticed SRD posting about their Thiers Issard razors. Can anyone comment on these? Particularly the 1937 Special Coiffeur? I'm currently using a new Boker King Cutter 5/8 and wonder if I would really notice much difference using the 6/8" special coiffeur?

I have a bottom of the line Theirs-Issard that came in a 'beginners' kit and out of 13 or so razors that I have it is totally one of my favorite

I'm not familiar with that model however TI makes great blades. You just have to watch their QC there can be issues.

I don't have that particular TI but the one's I do have are great shavers. I like the 6/8 razors better than the 5/8. I think they just suit my shaving style better. I can get a better angle with them and they just seem easier to use when I want to shave against the grain on my neck.

I can't compare mine 6/8 Special C. to anything else as that's the only one I have. But so far I'm very happy with it.

It's not obvious from pictures, but the heel and toe of that razor are more square than round.
Great for trimming around beards/mustaches, but can be a bit of a hazard for a beginner.

I really like my TI's. I'm no newbe to straight shaving. I have and have had a few straights I choose from for my daily shaves. I personally don't like anything with a sharp point. My mind wanders from time to time. From 4/8 through 6/8 they all have characteristics that must be learned, especially so for those with spike points. I just don't care for spikes. I'm sorry I can't help you with that particular model. As far as the thing being a shaver, in my opinion a TI will pass that test. Did I mention that I prefer a rounded point?
I hope this helps.

I was recently at a friends, and fellow SRP member, and he had a TI which he was honing. He asked if I could tell why the edge was uneven. I said it looked to me like the blade was bent (I had tried once to hone a E Morris prosperity which did the same thing) Sure enough, laying the spine on a hone, then flipping it over to the other side showed it was bent. Oddly enough, the edge was bent in the other direction! Anyway, when I got home I got out my TI (Both were AOS TIs) and mine too was bent, though not as badly.
I am not saying this to scare you away from this TI from SRD. Just giving examples of poor QC from TI which I have personally witnessed. I would bet SRD would be able to vett out bad blades before selling them.

Not sure what it is about TI's but they always remind me of a Fancied up, modified GD.........
Never owned one, and probably never will. I've heard about the QC issues several times now on here.

I have several TI's in my collection and they are among my favorite shavers. I have not had any QC issues with them and their steel is very high quality - leaps and bounds above Dovo IMHO.
