I'll second lathering your face in sections. Or, lather the whole thing then rinse and relather as necessary. My upper lip and chin always get a rinse and relather; that ensures those extra-tough barbs get one extra softening soak before the blade hits.
Ditto lathering in sections. There is an added bonus to this. It make skin stretching soooo much easier.
Relathering has been my only defense against shaving cream drying on my face.
For me its because of 1. Im a noob and take a long time to finish a shave. 2. The humidity right now in the North East is very dry. 3. I May or not have enough water in my soap glycerine based or not. For me its mostly number 1. I even tried the famous " Uber Lather" method and its still dries up. So keep on lathering!
