There are a few guys in province that hone. None that I'm sure of on this forum or that do it professionally. Its is probably a good bet to send it to Catrentshaving. He is in Edmonton, but by post it's pretty much the same time frame as sending it to Vancouver or Victoria. I'm about the same distance from you as Edmonton is, however we have the slowest mail service in Canada (literally), so if you are patient and Robert is backed up and can't get to it for a while, you could PM me. I would rather you tried to contact him first. I don't usually hone for others but would to help you out.
excellent! thanks!
probably some guys in the Portland and Seattle area I would imagine as well!
cheers!
I would recommend going with one of the site members here.
But, I have heard that knifewear, which has an outlet in Kelowna, sells Kamisori and western straights, and is capable of properly sharpening them. This is all hearsay, so I'm not really recommending them, but I guess you could check it out if you're so inclined. Maybe it's a good resource (possibly it's not).
I guess this is kinda a washy-washy bit of "help".
Gssixgun is in montana and put a great edge on a razor.
the other answer is... a norton 4/8 from lee valley tools and learn to hone for yourself :)
I just wanted to Hi, & welcome. :chapeau
Thanks for the input gentlemen! I was looking on Lee valley, grew up with those catalogs, could drop a few bucks in there no problem.
Montana is pretty close, I'm not a far drive from the 49th parallel either so i can drive down and mail that off if thats the route I go. Whippeddog has the chinese 12k barbers hone for $15, I know the norton is probably a better stone, but not even sure I need the 12k yet for refreshing. Its still a coin toss for me.
thanks!
gssixgun is in Northern Idaho, in Sandpoint, not Montana and his edges are awesome. And kudos to Rezdog with his offer.
The whipped dog hone is 2" x 4"...I'd save my $$$ if I were you. If you'd like to learn to hone yourself then save your pennies at the very least for a decent barbers hone...won't cost you much more. At least then when you have a properly honed edge you can maintain it. The Norton is a great hone and there's a ton of info around here and help...it's the stone most of us learned with.
Ah yes the slippery slope of buying gear and learning to hone while learning to shave.
