Good news: I had some time to play today so I lightly sanded the faded scale with 600 W/D paper and then with 5 micron trizact. That removed the brown top layer exposing the original black color. Then a few minutes on a buffing wheel with Mother's polish brought it to a nice bright luster. Saved the original hard rubber scales! Then I went to the stones and honed it through 12K. Haven't shaved with it yet but I'm expecting good things.

I have a steel order that my wife tells me arrived yesterday to replenish my stock,Also a few sticks of 15N20 as I have some Damascus to make for a couple of orders.Today I ordered a Crown and King scuttle ,a Omega long handle boars hair brush because my soap cup at work is a deep one and I'm sick of soap on my hand.Also ordered some Lucky Tiger liquid shaving cream to try out in the new scuttle.Also have two vintage Case razors in the mail.

Norton 220/1000, 4000/8000, Norton Flattening Stone, Naniwa 12k and Naniwa stone holder, chromium oxide paste, all from SRD.

Nice going Braz :<0).. I had a fox Cutlery ( got 2 now) and the blacks scales had that brown caramel looking coating. Buffer didn't do squat so I set it aside until somebody ( probably Mike) educated me on the hard rubber thing. I never imagined that kind of material being used for scales but it is kinda cool knowing what you got.

Oh and they finally put this on the truck . I am hoping to have it early next week.

*lets out a long whistle sound.* That sure looks like a nice rig for at-home heat treating! ...Probably a lot more control options & inherent precision than the like-new toaster oven I grabbed for the wife's clay crafts (for $1 at a garage sale ).

On a related tangent, I aspire to one day cobble together a modest smithy. But that won't be in the cards for me for quite some time . For now, I'll have to settle for simply restoring razors in my rental home, rather than making all manner of sharp and/or shiny things .

Anticipation is killing me............4 more hours till my mailman gets here hopefully with my NEW SRD Premium 1 strop.

8x8x6 and it has more control than I will ever need for razors and so I might be experimenting with a few other processes we can use on razors and scales. You'll have to think hard on that one because I don't want to start anything until I am ready to experiment :<0)
I have posted 1 RSO that has been waiting for this oven to show up and will probably shape some more before I fire it up. I hate the idea of wasting all the energy when the thing will hold 6 or 7 razors easy enough.

Just purchased a Thiers Issard Le Grelot 6/8 snakewood with leather case and a 2- Diamondback 3"x17" strops
