for some reason Radial arm saws seem to have fallen out of favour with woodworkers. Your right though, can't beat free! What does the digital read out do?

I never considered one for my shop tbh, but now that I have one and look at the features and versatility I wonder why I never considered one before.

Regarding the display;

Shows positive or negative angles for mitre and bevel from center axis.
Shows linear position changes from your set reference for ripping, and vertical measures for elevation of arm.
It has hard detent s at 45’ each way on the swing arm, and digital display to the 10th of a degree as well.

Be careful.
Those things are notorious for cutting off your thumb.

Does mitre, bevel, compound cuts, and rotates 90’ for ripping, then flips sideways even for channeling.

It's been around 50 years since I was taking Wood Shop in High School, but I do remember 'Grit' (our fond reference to Fred Gritman the instructor) saying to NEVER use a radial arm saw for ripping. Something about the way the rotation of the blade would pull the wood and we could be seriously injured.

While I see that a table saw blade also cuts into the wood, it's from underneath and the radial arm saw cuts into the wood from above.

Just thought that I'd share ancient council from my youth.

Not wanting to argue whether grit is true or not, I’m trying to figure if he meant ripping in a certain direction was dangerous, or in either direction period.
I won’t be doing much ripping I’m sure, but will be cautious and make lots of push sticks I think.
Learned the red cap thingy is for router attachments or sanding drum, cool.

Not really late, only a day. I was just really excited about this one. A little hone wear but not too bad. At least no big pits it devil's spit. Bevel looks pretty good also.
I love the grlnd of this thing. All the different angles and the shape of it Looks very complex to produce

Cleaned up nicely in about 30 minutes. Mainly polishing with a green scotch bright pad, steel wool, a rag and 3M Marine


I darkened up the engraving a little also

I might polish a little more but I think she's off to the hones

I got this H. Boker in the mail yesterday. The edge is chewed up in the middle and the toe has been honed a lot more than the heal so a re-shaping of the edge and heal is in order. The etching on the blade looks really nice. Hoping not to have to mess with it too much. Maybe just a little polish? Original scales although a bit lose. Overall I think it should fix up nicely. Plus it's a Boker so I can't complain!



Guessing 1920 to 1935 era. It does say Germany on the back of the tang.
