Shaun now that your address is out on SRP, there's no telling what may show up in your mailbox

I am going to pass it along to the next SRP member that I NEED or mail something to. After of course that it is featured in a SOTD. I hope the the person that receives it laughs, does a SOTD picture and sends it on to the next person that they are already sending stuff too, so we can all share in the humour and surprise.

    Hahaha,
I think that anyone that wants to pay the shipping is welcome to send me stuff. Also return addresses are mandatory to Canadian addresses.

Well the duck arrived early, and when I got home from work not exactly happy. I want to blame the seller, but this one is on me for not requesting better pictures. The lighting was perfect and I couldn't see the clearly trashed blade. Someone got a little happy with the buffer and smoked the temper. Well least I got some blosters to put in the closet for a future project.

I thought that was from lighting/oil! They got the blade hot enough to discolor it?! I would send it back.

Think if it was heat from a buffer, it would look buffed, which it doesn't.
That rainbow is often present with gassing from scales as is the micropitting I see.
A bit of polish to start. Stay with it.......

If you thumb the edge does the blade ting or thud?
I suspect it is not burnt, for the same reason Tom stated. I have a burned blade here and it has a very dead sound when you thumb the edge next to your ear.

Omg so your saying that this blade could be salvaged. I just got it in the mail tonight so haven't really done anything to it other than see that its iridescent and have read that it means the temper is shot. Will the rainbow effect go away after I clean it up.

I have seen the rainbow not Even from scales. Occasionally, its just a function of time. Like a blade I tempered to that sweet golden glow, then buffed out to a shine, only to have that gold tone begin to show again a few months later after it was left just sitting, oxidizing in the atmosphere. From that single picture, I cant make ANY guesses. Is it like that on both sides? is the other side all bright and shining? we need more to go on before making any decisions on if that blade is toast or not.
