Great !! I'm excited for you. Happy Shaving!
Good choice for a first. The Bismarck is one handsome razor.
The Dovo Bismarck is a sweet razor.
There not always shave ready from Dovo, So you may need to send it out to be honed if that service isn't included in the purchase price. I have one in my rotation and it's a very capable razor when it has a good edge on it.
Congratulation on the purchase.
Great choice! Make sure to post pics once you get it... Nothing quite like being submerged in your own RAD while fueling the affliction for others! ;-)

The Bismarck definitely appeals to me. Always looking at them when I see them, just haven't made the leap yet. We'll need a report when she arrives!
Where did you find it? My casual searching has turned up page after page of "Out of Stock" on all of the Dovo razors I like even remotely (Bismarck, Forestal, Bergischer).
Edit: To refine, I do understand that manufacturers only churn out so many razors at a time. The better question would be, "how often do they become available?"
What kind of scales does it have? I have one with the Mother Of Pearl. Nice razor.
Ya, the scales do look good. The only problem with mine is that I used Maas to polish the blade and it dulled the gold wash. :(
I'll keep that in mind. Sorry that it happened to you.
I am now the proud owner of two Bismarks, one new, and one old,(Bismarck Super). I always get a great shave with them. I know the anticipation you you were feeling. Hope it was a good experience for you.
I have always coveted Bismarks.
I have had to get my blades honed more than once in a couple weeks. Unfortunately the last time I sent it for honing due to general poor stropping technique, I got it home and within two shaves I nicked it on the faucet. *facepalm*
It's mainly for practice, since I just started honing my own razors. But at the same time, I found it difficult to hone a Bismarck due to its lack of a stabilizer. I posted a post, which you could read if you ever hone your own Bismarck, and basically learned from older members of the forum that I need to use less pressure when honing.
There is no problem maintaining a consistent edge. It's more about my lack of experience honing a shoulder-less blade and the learning process.
I use the hanging hair test to test sharpness with my own hair. Although some members of the forum may point out that HHT is just a test and does not indicate how well a razor shaves, I believe that if it can slice through my own hair, then it can slice through my whiskers pretty well. So this is just a personal opinion. I hone my Bismarck and now it's barely passing the HHT. As I become better at honing a shoulder-less blade, I believe that one day, it'll pass the HHT with ease.
Hope it helps. If you got it from SRD, then I am sure it is shave-ready!
