Hello from SoCal
Hello. This is my first post to the forum and am new to straight razor shaving. Last week, I purchased a Dovo Best Quality 5/8" from Straight Razor Designs. I had my fourth shave today and must say that although there is a learning curve and it takes some time (i.e. patience) I can see and feel progress with each shave.
Also, want to thank everyone on here who helped with my research prior to taking the plunge. You probably don't know who you are since I was not a member at the time but wanted to pass on my thanks anyway. This forum is an excellent resource and I'm looking forward to contributing!

Sounds like things are progressing nicely for you! Improving technique with a straight razor is very much linked to muscle memory, the more you shave, the easier it becomes, largely unconsciously it seems.
Insert my plug for the SRP Library here. Shamelessly ask questions. Here's hoping things continue to go well for you!

Hello, RedFox, and welcome. Any questions? Ask away. In the meantime, slow and easy does it as you hone your skill.

Hello RedFox welcome in. I'm in OC as you can see :<0) There are a few of us that get together once in awhile but I feel a meet lurking in the near future.

Thanks all...good to be out of the shadows! RoyalCake and pfries: looking forward to a SoCal meet up soon.
So...things were going great on my fourth shave. BUT...when I was cleaning up I noticed two dings in the blade catch my eye. I can't even describe how deflated I felt after having made progress. I tried to strop to see if it would make a difference (it didn't). Actually, one of the dings scratched the strop. So, yesterday I packs up the razor and went to the post office with my tail between my legs to send back to Lynn and folks at SRD and use up my free hone. Bummer.
Anyway, needed to vent. Haha.

Yep they are delicate aren't they. Don't even let it look at the faucet. Lesson one down.

+1 for delicate. For the life of me I don't know what happened. Must have been the faucet/sink. I saw a tip on here where someone suggested using a sponge the clean/wipe the blade while shaving. Might give that a try.
