I am finally getting to the end of my search for a first straight razor.
I do; however, have one facial characteristic that may affect my decision. A cleft chin.
I have no idea if there is an ideal kind of point but I feel like it is a relevant inquiry. These chin dimples can be tough to shave.
Does anyone have any experience with this matter? If so, your input would be highly valued.

I can't say that I have that, but I have nooks, crannies, hollows on my face and neck. I think the round point is the most friendly razor point for a beginner, and for difficult spots. For trimming around a goatee of something like that a French or Spanish point is efficent, but a round point is the safest.
I can get away with using square points and I have no cleft. I sure wouldn't try to get a square point down in one but the heel may work best . Maybe a Sheffield with a rounded toe ? OR like Jimmy said , best all round (point).
For a starter, it is difficult to beat a round point. Squares like to bite if you are not careful. A French point may get you the best of both worlds. Personally I would find a way of stretching the skin out so you are not shaving in divot.
Here is a fellow knew how to shave with a deep dimple in his chin ........ can't make out the razor though :)

when I started the round point was best for me .. I have a few shaves under my belt and its rare to nick myself !!! but when I do its about 100% square point !!! ..lol..
Sorry my favourites are square points but have rounds and Spanish also,
but at the end off the day the point makes no real difference as I have had a goatee since before I started with a str8, and use the middle of the blade not the point to shave my face & trim my goatee, so whatever appeals to you is the only difference at the end of the day

I still believe nothing beats a 4/8, 5/8 or 6/8 round point for a beginner. For the variety of dimples on the face, a wee bit of creative stretching, with zero pressure, should take care of it.
