My Lightbulb Moment !
I've started using guillotine strokes i.e. blade at a slight angle to the direction of travel. Tugging all gone. Close comfortable shaves and a great experience. Just need to remember not to slice !
Having seen a lot of threads re tugging etc I thought this was worth a mention.

Congratulations. It's so nice when you find a technique that works for you.

Scything stroke is the finest you can master IMO,Just be carefull.

Congrats. That is the fun in learning this art!! Scything stroke with a smiling blade = Good stuff. Listen to pix. advice!!!
-
The biggest cause of tugging for me was inadequate shave prep. Once I started the hot moist towel treatment everything smoothed right up.

Those 'Lightbulb'/'A-HA' moments are the best... I love it when you are working through a challenge and then all of a sudden find yourself in the Zone and on the other side of the problem with a, "... wait a minute!?", look on your face! :)
Makes me wish I started SR Shaving initially...

I've been doing this (at first accidentally) since about the 3 month mark. Others call it "windshield wiper" stroke. The key point is hit in the original post...don't move parallel to the blade! Eek slice!!!

You know, it's whatever works. And that works for me too :).
I love it when things start to come together!

Great, you will find using a combination of techniques to get to problem areas of your face and neck as you fine tune you beard mapping.
I use the back of my finger against the grain, to find problem areas, and then experiment with techniques to shave those areas.
Remember you shave with about 1 inch of the blade at a time, you may be removing hair across 3 inches of blade, but you rarely are shaving the full 3 inches. Trying to do so is a good way to cut yourself.
The goal is a smooth, close, bloodless shave.
Enjoy,
Marty
