Hi everyone,
I live near Buenos Aires city (Argentina), like sharpening and honing/stropping (though I still don't consider myself an expert), and will probably try straight razor shaving shortly (if someone finds my grandpa's straight razors, that is).

what are you honing & stropping now if you hav'nt tried straights yet?
you will find Str8s to be a lot different to knives to hone & strop
either way plenty of great info here to search & guide you along & if stuck just ask and someone will surely help you out
find those heirlooms & enjoy them

Welcome to SRP!
Be sure to check out the Library and read the beginner's guides. If you are going to be honing, check out the videos on that as well.
And we would love to see pictures of the razor. :)

Thanks, Eddie. I have already done so, and there is a lot more for me to read, both in this forum and out there. I have also watched some youtube videos, both in English and Spanish. I can't start until I find a razor, but will still be checking a lot more information prior to starting.Quote:

Still owing the pics, but wanting to update this thread.
Sharpened (yeah, old 500 grit stone. Fine honing ones were just too slow) it, honed it, and stropped it. Prior to that: Some phosphoric acid and lots of elbow grease to get rid of rust, as much as possible. With strong loupes (a 6 or 8mm TV lens actually) you can see a polished edge except for one or two places where rust lines are still there (very tiny, I must say; unnoticeable when shaving).
Being shaving with it since about ten days ago. Still in the learning slope, as I still find this shave less perfect than the disposable three blade ones. But haven't hurt either. Even if I shave as I was doing previously (commercial aerosol can of soap spray, no brush).
Haven't gone through as tidy as suggested in the tutorials ("shave only one cheek for a few days, then start with the other one, ..." and such). I am not so patient!

I've tried to show the whole thing, the "imprints", and where the rust had been.
Still learning about honing, stropping... and shaving! In the meantime, if anyone is aware about this brand being specially valuable (either as a collectible thing, historic value, or very expensive), PLEASE STOP ME NOW! If not, I'll still learn with what I have and not get anything else for the moment.
