First straight razor and first restoration attempt

I've had this Wade and Butcher blade for awhile now. Got it off ebay for 20 bucks as I wanted to do all that fancy stuff like making my own scales and making the blade a mirror finish.

When I got the blade I noticed a hairline crack on the front edge of the blade so I decided to do a barbers notch. Now I'm worried I went to far and got to close to the bottom edge of the blade. What do you guys think? Is the notch to far down or will it be ok? Also I figured if I could get a set of scales that would fit this that that would be a better way to go right now. The blade is a 5/8th so does any one know of good scales I could use?

Maggard razors has some pre made scales. Welcome to the forum. Your notch might be off a little for your aesthetic taste but it will function just fine by the looks of things.

Hi and welcome. With a heavy grind like that shouldn't pose a problem. There are a number of seller's on ebay selling pre made wood and horn scales might be worth a look

No opinion on the notch . . . too new for that, but welcome and good luck! Just got some stones to try a restore on my own for back-up razors.
