First SR shave today
Finally... I just gave myself my first SR shave at home. I can feel the addiction starting. Shaving with my right (dominant) hand was not too difficult. Using my left (non-dominant) was tricky. I thought I would have to stand on my head to get parts of my face :p. I even got my neck. It only took about 15 minutes with no real blood flowing...
I only made one pass WTG on the sides of my face. I did my first pass on my neck WTG and my second pass ATG. I did not trust myself XTG and I figured that I would stop while I was ahead and on a high note.
I am not as smooth as I am with DE shaving but this in only my first effort. I have faith that I will get better in the next several years ;)
I did not try my chin and upper lip today. Still keeping my "goatee" a while longer. When I have better skill I will have a go at getting rid of it. Now to try stropping and hoping I don't mess up a beautiful RA blade.
One more thing off my personal bucket list :rock:
Thanks to everyone who has shared ideas and suggestions to make this a fun morning!!

If you keep working with that left hand it will quickly get easier. I have found that many new fine motor tasks require about two weeks to see a marked improvement. For shaving it might take a little longer because of the relatively short time for each shave, but be patient and it will get easier!

Woohoo! Fun ain't it! You will find that you will get better at it sooner than you think. Also, there is the cool factor. Very cool doing it "old school." Have fun and smooth shaves to you, hopefully bloodless!

My left hand has actually become my best hand after a year. Never would have thought it.

And it begins!
Enjoy the journey!! :D

Your are embarking on a journey for which there is no return. There may be side tracks but you'll find yourself back on the trail of perfection in the art of shave again and again. well come. And in the words of another feller here Woo hoo ant it fun:gl:

Congratulations!! Sounds like great progress for day one. Watching a ton of videos will help you figure out the angles and what works for you. The comfort level will come way sooner than you think.
Good luck!

Congrats. Keep working on your left hand. Progress comes quickly.

Congrats! I too for the first time last night just did a small section of my face and neck to see if I would need to go to the emergency room bleeding from my carotid artery!!!! Nary a nick but I was a bit hesitant to apply much if any pressure what so ever. Guess I am still a bit weary.
But once again.......congrats my friend. I hope to do a full shave soon with some confidence like you did.

Thanks to everyone for the encouragement and tips. I am looking forward to my second shave this weekend.

Congrats on the success. Coming from the de you should pick it up pretty quickly.

I just finished with my first shave, met with a group today to get my razor honed, worked great, I just took my time and shaved my whole face first time, I just used my right hand to shave with, after a few more times I might try using my left as well, keep up the good work!

Welcome. Consider yourself "christened." :-)

Welcome! I'm 19 shaves in, coming from a DE. Each time getting smoother and more consistent. Hardest part is figuring which direction to do the stroke for certain areas of my face. The blade is so much longer than a DE, and awkward around the chin area.
Been forcing myself to use my left as much as possible. For some reason, even though my left is not as coordinated, it does provide a lighter touch.
Have fun!
