I had a bad shave! Noooooooooo!

Fellas,

So here is what happened... I received my new razor from Stove yesterday and decided I would try a shower shave this morning. Everything seemed to be OK until I nicked a mole and started bleeding all over the place. I called for the wife to get the styptic pencil to control it (it wasn't that bad). As the bleeding stopped I felt around my face and it was a horrible shave. I am sure it was the sound of the shower affecting my ability to hear the hairs being cut. Reluctantly, I finished my shave with the ole trusty cartridge razor and went on about my business. I think I will have to build up the memory shaving in the mirror before I can take on the shower shave.

Anyone else have this issue and how did you overcome it. I assume experience will gain ability.

Long story short. i have not given up on the wet shaving but will have to spend a little more time doing it after the shower. I hope military life will not prevent me from having the time to "get" this. Luckily I only have a couple years until I retire.

Next shave will be my best shave... next shave will be my best shave... next shave will be my best shave.

What ever you do, do not drop a razor in the shower. I would never shave in the shower. Sorry I can't be of help but good luck.

You got it right. Shower isn't the best place to start. Key is good prep, light touch & correct angle. Unlike your cart razor, the DE isn't pulling the hair out to slice or break off. You'll need to do multiple passes -- Your chopping it off several times until is it down to the skin. With a little time, a 2 or 3 pass shave will be quick (not quicker), closer, more enjoyable and better for your skin than the cart.
Glad your not giving up. Nothing wrong with a DE pass and a cartridge finish until you get it down. Can also shave weekends with a DE and daily with a cartridge for a bit. Highly recommend checking out Mantic59 and GeoFatboy youtube channels. Mantic59's "Introduction to traditional wet shaving parts 1 - 3" is fun to start. Also search for the 10 minute wet shave or 5 minute safety razor shave videos.
It wont take long to get it down. But there is a learning curve.

Back when I use to use cartridges, I always shaved in the shower. I would not do that with a de and NEVER with a straight. If you drop your razor, it is going straight toward something no man wants to cut!

Or more to the point, getting the scales wet is a big no no.

I assure you that will not happen again. I thought about running th face with a cartridge and then going to the DE after shower for a very tight shave. Thoughts?

What ever works for you. I think it would be hard to gauge your improvement with the DE that way, though.
Another thought, shave with the DE at night and tighten up with the morning shower, if needed. Wont be long before it isn't needed. Then, you can enjoy your shave and not worry about the time.
Might be other benefits to going to bed clean shaven and smelling good ;)

I always shave before my shower. No reason but just the way I do it.

I don't have to rinse my face and use the extra soap all over my the rest of my body. The water warms up in the sink and therefore is warmer quicker in the shower. So maybe there is a method to my madness. :hmmm:

One thing I wouldn't do is shave without a mirror. Before or after!
