Can anyone give me a suggestion or recommendation on where to get my first razor in Canada? Online, or local around the Ottawa area. I'm thinking the Classic Dovo 5/8 in black is the best choice for me. Or if there are other suggestions, I'd be glad to hear. Or if someone is willing to sell a used razor at a fair price to a new member, I'd also be glad to hear from you. Thanks!
Classic edge is good when they're in stock. Also SRD but the shipping is pricy from the states.

I think Knifewear has a store in Ottawa. They are primarily knife guys, but some have are decent with a razor. Or just check the classifieds here.

I do not know who hones the razors for Fendrihan but I have had razors honed by Phil from Classicedge and can say the edges are very good. Personally I would not buy a new razor with a factory edge if I did not know how to hone a straight razor. It seems like it is almost down to the flip of a coin if the factory edge is really shave ready. If it is not shave ready you will have a miserable first experience of a shave and will have to send it out for honing anyway. Personally, I would wait for Phil to have what you want in stock. As a bonus Phil offers a free second honing.

The issue with House of Knives is they are factory edges and not hand honed, nor do they recommend anyone either. Stick with Phil at the Classic Edge.
+1 to the advice to avoid house of knives.
Knifewear on Bank St is a good local option. While they are primarily a knife store, they are a knife store staffed by folks who are appropriately obsessed with Very Sharp Things. I personally have not used their honing service, but have heard positive things about it second-hand. Best thing is you'll be able to see the razor in person and decide what you like. Worst case scenario: it isn't entirely shave-ready. If that's the case let me know and we can meet up and I'll put a good edge on it for you.

Agreed completely, the Dovo Best Quality was a great razor to start with, for some reason, I'm not a fan of any of their other razor's, I'd definitely go TI as well.Quote:

Yes, that site looks crazy expensive to me.. Classifieds are a good deal. One poster in this thread is my favorite vendor...excellent hone and great classic razors..
