Hello everybody;
So here I have completed my 5th month shaving with my Dovo Best Quality SR.
As a celebration I want to get a second one. My choices are: TI Le Dandy, Dovo Carre, Boker Silver Steel or The Dovo Bismark.
Which one would you recommend?

You seem to be headed down the same street. All your choices are new blades which I can understand. Maybe someday you will be ready for a little variety like maybe a vintage Sheffield ?
TI or Boker. I like them both. Or as mentioned you could head down the vintage path. Check out Friodurs.
About the vintage razors, I feel I don't have enough knowledge to make a good choice so for my second razor I razer stick to new ones.

I really like to have in hand the razor before I buy it and the above mentioned are the razors that I can see on a fiscal shop.
With more experience I ll venture to get a razor on the net.
That is why I was asking and those 4 razors.
With 5 months in you really don't know enough about the razor you currently own.
The next razor you purchase will shave differently.
Now you're going to possibly start screwing up your results and learning curve.
Thus happens when you buy anything new when you straight shave, soap, brushes, razors, strops, etc......!
My suggestion is don't be in a rush. The next razor you buy you may not even like the way it shaves, but it might look purdy sitting there.
Boker...hands down. I own two T-Is, a Dovo Palisander (same blade as the Bismark) and a Silver Steel.Quote:

If your heart is set on a new razor. Don't leave the offerings from Ralph Aust off your list. They offer beautiful razor and scale combinations.
From your list of choices, I'd go with the Boker. I have one and like it. Forgetting that and your desire to try it in hand first, I'd go to the classifieds here. There are usually some good choices and you won't get ripped off my a member who lists razors here.
Boker, Boker, Boker! I am biased though. I love them. Even if you don't get on with it, I can guarantee that if you advertised it for sale on here it would sell pretty quickly. Good luck.

I like to try blades from different companies, and since you already have a Dovo, I'd recommend the Boker first and the TI second.
I also think you will be happy with any of the four.

I agree on trying new brands is the way to go. I am leaning towards the boker because it is an extra full hollow and I am leaning towards the TI because it is a 5/8 (so far I have a 6/8) and I can get it for 70 us$ less than the boker.
I have a Dovo Bismark, which I usually keep in my regular rotation. It's a fairly decent razor for the price, the only problem with mine is that the goldwash came off, but that's my fault. (Don't use Maas Polish on goldwash)! The Boker Silver Steel would probably be another good choice. If you have trouble deciding, just go with the one that you think looks better, as you won't get a perfect review until you try it for yourself. Enjoy.
So I finally went for the Boker silver steel.
Like that at least I have a Boker in my collection and a singing blade.
I ll be more adventurous on my third SR....believe it or not, I am already looking....I see that this is going to be a serious problem.....

Oh, I believe you. I'm only about 10 shaves into straight razor shaving and I just bought my second razor from wolfpack34 in the classifieds here. It's a Geo Wostenholm & Son vintage Sheffield extra hollow razor circa 1850-1890. I should get it tomorrow and I can't wait. My first razor isn't exactly a great beginners razor either, but while hunting for the best price on a Boker King Cutter, I found a place selling Boker Arbolitos for about 1/2 list price, so I went for it. 10 shaves and no blood yet, but I'm sure it's coming. I'm thinking about my third too, and may end up with another Boker, but I'm leaning toward an Edelweiss. As a beginner, I should probably have at least 1 razor that is suited for rookies. :DQuote:

The Carrie is excellent if touch find a NOS pre-200. Otherwise if would go Boker. Try to stay away from any ornate blades.
Hello All;
Just got my Boker, Silver Steel White.
My first impression is how similar is to my Dovo Best Quality. The blades look identical. I am not an expert but I could not see that it is Extra Hollow when putting it next to my Best Quality. So I am a little disappointed there.
I am sending it tomorrow to be honed since it is not shave ready.
Lets see how it shaves
Pictures of your razors would be nice when you have them all back in your possession.

When you are ready for a vintage or other "internet" razor, I would recommend the classifieds here as a starting place. You may be able to find a better razor somewhere else, and you may find a better price somewhere else too. But you will NOT find a better combination of the two. At least, that has been my experience.Quote:
