Storage
Not a newbie but they may benefit from the question as well. What level of humidity becomes problematic for straights? I currently have them stored In a bone dry humidor (that was never used for cigars) with dessicants. The gauge reads humidity levels below 60% which is fairly dry but am hoping for more specific guidelines.

One of the things that I use that has worked like a charm is VCI paper. A little tip I pick up from Glen some time ago. I live in the temperate rain forest so is is alway cool and moist, corrosions favorite conditions, if in doubt wrap them up.

Thanks for the tip! What is VCI paper? Have a recommended vendor?

It is from Uline and is best in 8X8 sheets. It is anti corrosion paper.

Rust will happen if the temperature of the metal is below the dew point for the current temperature and humidity conditions. You can get rust in a desert with single digit humidity levels because of the temperature swings affecting the dew point. Without breaking out a psychometric chart, inside at 50% relative humidity and 70 degrees F is pretty much rust free.

Do we really need to go to such extreme lengths. As long as I'm not running hot steamy water all day isn't keeping it in a drawer or cabinet and making sure it's clean and dry with the occasional wipe down with oil good enough? Extreme weather conditions being the exception of course.

There are a lot of variables. How many razors, the length of storage, a big one is the environment. Most guts are very particular about their razors. I also use snap lock plastic containers. You need to figure out what works for you. As long as no razors are harmed it will all be just fine.

Here's whati've concoted- humidor which has never been used for cigars- bone dry.
Insert for pen display case. And dessicnts. Razors have a coat of camellia oil.
Just want to be sure humidity remains low enough to avoid rusting. These are all part of my daily rotation.

I was getting rather nervous when I opened up my cabinet the other day after a shower and my soap mugs were sweating. Maybe I need to add something like that to my den.
