Don't know if this has already been said or not, but the reason I do it after a shave isn't necessarily to sharpen it back to an edge but more to give myself piece of mind that there is non moisture on the edge of the blade whatsoever. And hey it's more stropping practice!
I always strop after the shave - It gets any microgunk off the edge of the blade and ensures the edge is completely dry and clean.
I've found it also seems to mean longer between touch ups as well, always a good thing.
It makes sense that it would help protect the blade. It certainly doesn't hurt.
I am a 10 10 guy. Always strop after a shave and I let the razor sit out semi opened until my next shave. Put yesterdays razor away and pull out the razor for that day.
My routine is simple, 25 strop on the canvas right after the shave i let my razor dry in the air(i make sure to take off all exess humidity) and few hours after i strop 60 on the leather. For me it works perfectly. I don't strop before the shave but right after, i also have 6 straights and rotate my straights so i don't shave whit the same straight 2 days in a row. Gino
There are more important things to worry about. Just practice stropping with a dull- or plastic knife until you feel confident your strokes are light, spine keeps in contact the strop and your can flip a blade without twisting yout wrist back and forth.
(5/10 after every shave; 25/60 before. MMoo)
