Tiny TINY nicks in my blade -- What to do?

Looking at the light reflected from the edge, I can see that there are a couple of tiny dings in the edge. See attached picture.

Hopefully you can see the two little sparks of light on the edge. They're pretty small, and you can see that they don't extend past the bevel. I can't feel them when I'm shaving, and to be honest I can't even remember doing anything that would have caused them.

Should I try to hone them out (I have an 8k and 12k Naniwa), or should I just forget about them?

They are small enough to hone out.

Do you dip your razor in a sink to remove lather? That seems to be the most frequent culprit for damage.

Begin with proper stropping and progress to more aggressive alternatives. Unfortunately it is probably stropping that caused the chipping. It is not uncommon with new straight razor shaver to nick the strop, usually at the flip. A straight razor edge is very fragile.

I chipped a couple of edges when I was first learning a hanging strop, and the chips looked like yours...
I would give a 12k stone some passes to try to get them out:)

I rinse the razor under running water, and take care to never let the edge touch a hard surface. Most likely it was caused during stropping since I have a small nick in the strop.

I'll try 100 passes on leather, and if that doesn't work I'll see if CrOx can help. Failing that, I can always turn to my 12k stone. Hopefully that'll do the trick.

Personally, I'd give it a few laps on the 12k, then go through your stropping routine whilst being very careful with your stropping.

Before shaving, I stropped 100 times on leather, 20 laps on CrOx, and then another 100 laps on leather. After shaving I gave it another 100 passes on the strop.

Staring hard at the edge I can sometimes see the nicks, and sometimes not, so I think they've shrunk a little. I might try a couple of passes on the 12k tomorrow, but at least I know that the razor's still good quality.

First take a look at it with some magnification, if that is the only damage and is less than a ¼ of the bevel you may be able to strop it out with Chrome Oxide. Do not use too much pressure.

If not do 40 circles on the 12k with lite pressure, then 20 X laps to blend the edge and strop on chrome oxide and leather. Use lite pressure.

Thanks Euclid440. When you say to strop it out with CrOx, how many passes do you advise? How many is too many?

So what you want to do is first look at the edge, then begin with the least aggressive method, to preserve as much steel as possible.

If the chip is less than a quarter of the bevel, you may be able to strop it out with 20-30 laps of chrome oxide. If it is a large chip or 20-30 laps does not remove it, you will need to go to the next aggressive step, a finish stone.

The problem with stropping on a pasted strop is it can cause more damage, in untrained hands, but worth a try. If you are making progress but not completely removing the chip, a few more laps may be required, but don’t get caught up doing hundreds of laps, just go to the stone.

If you had a Diamond pasted strop you possible could strop it out, but that again is a double edge sword. I like .50 Diamond spray for edge revival, but again look at it first, never just jump in blind and start grinding away.

Yours is a common issue with new stroppers, learning how to diagnose these problems, are half the solution.
