Is there any products that one can recommend. I have not as of yet gotten a razor, so I thought it would be a good time to get all that I need before I do. I know its a lot like putting the cart before the horse.
Also is any special shave soap one can recommend as well. I have Williams shave soap that I use for my DE razors.
I am going to use these products for straight razor shaving. Any help would be great.
Welcome to SRP pathology. I rub a small amount of this product into my wet whiskers. I brush lather my favorite soap or cream of the day directly over the top. I make a razor pass, rinse in cold water, and repeat the applications. I get nice close comfortable shaves without irritation. Finish off your shave with the application of a lubricating shaving balm. You can find the Neutrogena Sensitive Skin Shaving Cream in most large box retail stores for 3.99. The Neutrogena After Shave Balm or the Nivea are very good aftershave balm products.

If you can get a good slick lather from the Williams I would just stick with what you have working for you already. A popular pre shave cream is the proraso one and post shave is Nivea men sensitive post shave balm. There are plenty of options and it's really personal preference. I tried the proraso and found it didn't offer me anything. Others find it works for them. I would concentrate more on the basics of beard prep and not rely on products instead. Alum after shaving is also very common. Good luck and hope you find what works for you.
I use Wm Neumann preshave oil. I like it better than cream. I rub it in, then strop my razor, which gives it time to work.
I can't comment on the pre-shave because I don't use pre shave but for for post shave I use geo thumper extract of lines and I love it. My suggestion would be is get a bunch of samples of pre shaves and post shave balms This way you can find one that's right for you. I know there are a couple of websites that have samples of but unfortunately I don't remember the sites. Hopefully someone after me can tell you the name of a couple of sites to go and get samples to try.

I recommend Castle Forbes: pre-shave, lavender shave cream, and post-shave balm. Top of the line. You might as well give yourself a good start. Yes, the products are pricey, but I believe worth every penny.

Beard prep is key to a close shave, and while I don't use it all the time, when I do, the shave is closer and very comfortable, it is the only pre-shave application I will use.
I don't use preshave very often, but I did in the beginning. Ultimately I found Noxema cleansing cream to be the best for me and it's cheap.
King of Shaves make a good oil.
I find this to be the best ,,, no scent to speak of, softens the whiskers & washes off easy & not greasy,,,,,,
