For a beginner, shaving as efficiently as this gentleman in the video is a goal some light year in the future. For some reason, I can't stop watching it :-)
Question: what kind of shaving soap/cream is he using?

I am not the first to post this in a link; I saw it the other day and thanks to the person who first posted it.
The video description says he is using Tabula Rasa cream.
Fwiw, I'm not a fan of his shaving technique.
I don't know if the technique is something that a beginner such as myself should try. However, it is amazing how proficient he is. I noticed he stretched the skin almost before each stroke of the razor no matter where he was on the face. There is still something mezmerizing about it.
Thanks for the tip on the soap; I didn't notice that.
Can't say I would recommend his form either as ther is a lot of dry shaving going on

Interesting that he keeps the scales parallel with the blade rather than perpendicular.
I have Tabula Rasa shave cream. It makes a very rich lather but can be tricky to build.
Man,that blade is huge! I'm too green to argue with what obviously works for him, but it looks to me like he's choosing his stroke direction based more on what's comfortable for his dominant hand as opposed to the direction his hair is growing. I first noticed it when he went down on the right cheek, but then sideways on the left. But in the end he got a good shave and didn't pull a muscle slinging that giant blade around so it's all good :)

By the way, I have NEVER heard that sound while shaving, even when the razor and area I'm working on is adjacent to my ear, even with extra full hollow razors.
I hear whiskers being cut, but not that "sandpaper block" sound.

I enjoyed the video. It's obvious he's a very experienced S.R. shaver. Watch how close he keeps the spine of the razor to his cheek. It's very difficult to cut yourself when you maintain this blade angle. Also he does a fantastic job of stretching his skin throughout the shave. Stretching the skin taut is very important when striving for a BBS shave with a S.R.
I agree with Substance and Harold.
His technique reminds me of a English Barber vid posted here a few years ago. LOTS of short strokes on a fairly dry face.
Don't have his soap but that technique would work best with Martin de Candre soap which has a very long lasting glide.
My guess is that he has tailored his shave technique to his face and beard growth pattern. Since nobody's face and beard is the same it may not be directly applicable to anyone else.
I have a few razors that will give that sand paper block sound when shaving, usually extra full hollow and or bellied hollow ground types. This mornings shave sounded like that with no enhanced sound necessary.
For certain areas I do use the razor with the scales parallel/inline with the blade too. Usually for ATG on my neck and chin.

Looks like he knows what he's doing. However, for biginners, I'dstrongly recommend learning to shave with both hands.
