Method Shaving, Cutting Forms and other questions

Some little questions from a forum newbie :w:

Apart from the different products to produce lather, I don't understand what's the difference with a traditional shaving

I just tried this morning to be more precise in shaving, and to give regular strokes in particular order and not the usual chaotic way with many different angles at the same time. I found the Q3 in 2nd form really impossible (for me) to do with straight and in the "method shave" video in fact they do it with a safety razor. . . Do you use that or shave only following grain and against grain?

3- Do you usually swap hands from side to side?
I'm left handed and till now I've been using only left, with an obvious difference between shaving a side from the other (different angle and position of the blade). In order to have a more scientific shave I decided to swap hands to do exactly the same strokes on the left and right sides, but using the right hand was very complex and I felt unable.

4- Last stupid question is: I know people lightly slapping their face when applying an aftershave? Is it useful to improve circulation (and even covering a razor burn) or only an unuseful act?

Already found some answers on difference between "Method" and traditional wet shaving on SMF forum (as I can see a lot of users are on SRP, SMF and B&B)

I do swap hands when shaving, it is easier to shave yourself that way...

Except for the No.3, all other points are nonsense.

I'm afraid I can't speak to method shaving, except that it seems like a lot of pseudo-scientific mumbo-jumbo designed to sell overpriced stuff.

Many guys use both hands when shaving. There are a few guys that only use one hand, I'm not sure of the percentage.

I think the slapping motion is actually easier on your skin than rubbing it; plus if you're applying alcohol-based aftershave the slap helps distract you from the sting.

I only use my right hand to shave with; I am right handed, but not strongly right dominant (I used to be able to fence acceptably with my left hand, for instance, back when I did that sort of thing for fun).

I do switch around my grip considerably, with both an overhand and an underhand grip; in both I hook my little finger around the tail of the blade.

Those "Shaving forms" assume way too much about a person's hair growth to be useful, I think.

Don't bother with Q3 in the second phase. Just make all of Q3 the same as Q4. In fact with a straight some advocate pushing Q1 into Q2 just a little too. Othewise the quadrants are pretty useful, although the prior post on individual whisker direction is valuable too.

But that is very similar to the areas and directions I use.
