Straight Razors new for $8 and $12 dollars

When I go on line I see adds for Straight Razors for as low as 8 dollars up to about 15. These are all brand new. The thing I have to ask myself is why would you buy something like this for the price. The price alone should tell you its nothing of quality that you would want own.

The young man across the street from me (35 years old) bought one of these pieces of work. A very intelligent man a nuclear engineer to be exact. He bought one of these and just about tore his face off with it. I could not resist and asked him why would you put a blade for that price and quality against your face and throat.

I have ask what could they be making these razors out and how are they making these for the price they are. I find it hard to believe they could be allowed to sell such junk that in the end is nothing but dangerous and worthless.

They are letter openers and they make them, because people buy them.

If they are by Kreiger they are stainless and only for cutting butter. Some of the gold dollar razors hone up OK. Remember, if it sounds too good to be true it probably isn't. Buyer beware!

I hope its only adults who are buying these pieces of trash. I wouldn't want our youth and potential SR users of the future to use them. They will be afraid to use nothing but junk bic disposables and think that's what a razor is.

Do not pay attention to such a razor, they can only be training in sharpening.

I think straight razors are esoteric enough for most people that they have no reference whatsoever about them, so for most $8 is probably as reasonable price as $80.

Of course, a cautious person would probably research a little bit before diving in head first in something they are clueless about, but at the same time $8 is a throw away amount for a nuclear engineer salary.

A lot of things these days are very cheap and functional, even if low quality, for example Gold Dollar are under a dollar in bulk and could shave. From the statistics of large numbers there is probably the occasional GD that would shave as coming out of the factory.
In any case, I wouldn't judge him too harshly and would offer him some helpful advice.

I talked to him I didn't judge him to bad. We kind of joked about it. I did take him under my wing and gave him some good advise. He is looking at a Dovo now as we speak. I told him to make sure you have them send out to a person who can hone it before he uses it.

He did buy a good brush and a strop, he must have thought you could brush and strop your way to good quality in the $12 razor.

He has probably joined the forum and is reading this message as we speak.
