Got my sight unseen and my poor mans strop. Carefully stropped, warmed face with towel, whipped up some Williams, and successfully shaved both cheeks to the jawline with no trouble, and no blood. Touched up the rest with a DE. Step one!

That's a very good start.
Go slow and clean up with the razor you are familiar with until you are more familiar with the straight.
And stop rubbing your face so much! :)

You did it right, no need to rush and try to do your whole face! Just take it slow and enjoy the journey. Before you know it you will be thinking about different grinds to try and comparing blade widths:)
