Lee Valley's Green Compound question

Just recently I went to Lee Valley to get the norton stone - while I was there - I got the green honing compound for $10.

Anyways - I have two dovo strops - on one of them I rubbed in the green compound. My intentions were to have one strop with compound and one without. My questions are - which I should have asked before doing:

- Is this an acceptable compound to use? If so - how often should I used it? Should I use it after the stone only? Or every 5-10 shaves?
- Is the dovo leather strop ok to do this - or should I have gotten a paddle instead? Did I ruin the strop or is it still usable?
- How much should I used - I covered the entire stropped with it?
- When stropping with the compound - do I go the same direction as a regular strop or do I go the way that I would when using a waterstone?

i don't think anyones given a definitive answer as to how well it performs. it is made for tools so it might not be the most appropriate thing to use, but should still work fine.

pastes are used to refresh the edge when the blade starts to pull, it varies from razor to razor, but maybe every 10 shaves give or take (it delays going back to the hone). it's also used after honing to get a nice smooth shaving edge.

hanging strops aren't the ideal way to use a paste, but it works, so i don't think you ruined the strop

you probably could clean the strop to make it a regular strop again but i'm not sure how to clean a strop so i wont comment

do NOT use a honing motion with a strop or you will quickly have no strop!
always strop spine leading, edge trailing

I use the green compound on my hanging linen strop. Seems to work just fine. It doesn't take much. Use it maybe every 10 shaves or when your blade starts to pull a bit. Use it like a strop, not a hone.

I use the same compound as a finisher to my honing mostly and sometimes for touching up. I use it on a brushed leather on a paddle. You'll have to let me know how it goes on a hanger.

Stropping direction is always the same whether pasted or not.

Thanks for all the advice. I just finished using both strops and I finally was able to do the hht - mind you - I did it only once - first time ever - so maybe it was a fluke. Anyways seems sharper than before - can't wait to shave tomorrow to actually test it.
