So I am purchasing a dovo SE this week and it will be my first. I am wondering if there is a huge difference between the 5/8 and 6/8 when I comes to longevity. I am looking at the carbon steel blades so I could one day pass this on to Jr. Any thoughts???
It's a size preference, longevity is up to you. Both are good sizes to start. Tc
Longevity is determined by how many times you hone the razor. Also care. If you let it rust, drop it or don't take care of it. A properly cared for razor can last several lifetimes.
Either will last for generations if well taken care of properly.
Make sure you get it professionally honed, they are not shave ready directly from the factory.

Theoretically, you only need to hone it once and maintained it indefinitely on a leather of pasted strop.
Most of my razors will probably never see a stone again, and if they do it will only be a high grit finish stone, that will remove the slightest bit of steel.
It is really about feel, they do feel different, not better. Some of my favorite shavers are small razors, 4/8 and 5/8. But I also have large 1 inch blades also…
