How hot is too hot?
Hello everybody!
Lately I started to wonder if I'm damaging my SRs with the hot water...
I know that while sanding razors one should not heat them too much, but is hot water hot enough to damage them?
After I shave, I use hot water to clean the razor (about 50-60'C, or 130-140'F). The logic behind it is that after I wipe it dry, the heated metal will evaporate all the water that I failed to dry...
But as I said, lately I began to worry that I'm messing with the heat treatment of the steel....
So - how hot is too hot for my blades...?

Those temperatures will not be a problem. To affect the temper I'd guess you'd need to be north of 200 degrees C. People with real metallurgical knowledge will be able to give a more accurate figure but if we're dealing with bathroom tap hot water you're well and truly in the clear.

Boiling water (or cooler) will not hurt the temper of the blade. Tempering starts around 175 C (350 F).
Temperatures above 95 C (200 F) can damage the scales though.

Yep seeing as met people's hot water isn't much more than 120 degrees your f e. Tc

I'd be more worried about the scales at that temp. No problem for the steel though.
