It is how thin the blade is ground. A wedge is thickest and least "hollow ground". A full hollow would be thinner.

At the end of the day, between identical razors of different grinds, the major difference would be the weight.
They should be close in performance. The full hollow may have a little more flex due to the blade being thinner. Maybe you could speak to the owners of SRD and get their opinions.
I should have specified, which grind would be best for a beginner to learn on? Like is the thinner blade going to cut me more than the half hollow?
I usually recommend the full hollow Best Quality Dovo or the 5/8 Ralf Aust for new folks. You should be fine with either.
Take a look at the beginner section Read First thread before you first attempt to shave with your new straight razor.
Have fun.
Personally don't know if as a heavy I would choose a 1/2 inch. I would start with 5/8 or 6/8. A little more body and easier to control. Good luck whatever you choose and stick with it.
Ordering it as we speak, Dovo Best Quality Full Hollow 5/8 Blade, upgraded to 3" Strop as well as the SRD Premium Fabric. Would like to thank everyone for the help. And Lynn your basically a super star to me, watched basically all your how-to videos. Also I have read just a bout everything I could get my hands on and am still going strong. I am so excited about starting this venture that I am putting off some other things to make room. I shall keep y'all posted.
You made a great choice. My first razor and strop was from SRD and they haven't let me down. Lynn puts a killer edge on these razors. The strop are top notch both in looks and more importantly performance. Keep read in the wikis and if you got a question ask it you will always get a great answer. Enjoy the adventure.

That's the same one that I got, as my first razor. Worked out well, and the free honing coupon is well worth it for beginners. It's easy to get a ding on the edge, when starting out.
Just follow the instructions, and shave with the blade as-is, without stropping first. Lots of good tips in the forum here on how to get started. Feel free to ask away, though, if you have questions. It's a lot of new stuff to learn, but well worth it.
Watch the videos again, once your stuff is in hand!
