After reviewing several You tube vids, I have noticed that many are using magnifying glasses or microscopes to check their work when setting the bevel or honing.
Any advice or recommendations about microscopes?
Thanks

For a reasonably cheap option, this seems to a favourite.

The real importance is to learn how to view the bevel and edge. Then you can easily tell if the bevel is properly set.
Enjoy!

I like this one. It's inexpensive and uses 1 AA battery since is common and, in my case, rechargeable.
I have the same one Thug suggested and I like the light and it is really neat to be able to magnify things to 100x but.. I honestly believe even the 60x is too much. I use it because I have it but 30x magnification I believe would be plenty. When the batteries die on the one I have I will buy a 30x. Good luck sir
I purchased a Koolertron 5MP 20-300X USB Digital Microscope Magnifier Video Camera with 8-LED. I am going to try and take snapshots of each phase of bevel setting and honing for each razor that I have. I will use the photos as a record and if I am having difficulties I can put the pictures on the blog and ask for advice.
Good idea on the digital reference. I've been using a cheap Radio Shack 30x magnifier I got several years ago, don't think they even carry it anymore, but it's been invaluable for knife making, and comes in handy for checking the edges of razors. The only thing I don't like about mine is the image is reversed so you have to move opposite the way it looks like it needs to go to get the edge in the center and to follow it.
Those chinese are nice when you are researching the effects of different hones or pastes on an edge... cause you can actually save the pics and compare later..
