I have been sticking to Solengen straight razors (except for the Gold Dollar that I got to make my honing mistakes on) and thought that it was about time to branch out.
I got myself a shave ready Nakashige KJKMA Straight Razor for $30.
For $30, I can live with a bit of tarnish on the tang and tail.
Besides... a bit of tarnish gives an older blade a look of distinction and authenticity, right?

Unable to enlarge the pic. I have looked at and been curious of Japanese razors. Never took the plunge though
I'm sure you won't be disappointed. Japanes razors can definitely hold their own against the best of them.

This was the best image that I could get from ebay for a sold item.
This one seem to have just the hint of a Spanish point to it, which is also new to me since I've pretty much stuck with Round points.
Is this it?

Nice looking razor. Japanese razors are top notch as far as quality goes.$30 sounds like a score, but you could have gotten 4 gold dollars for the same price... 😀

That's a great looking razor. I have been hanging my nose over a Japanese razor for some time but haven't taken the plunge.
I am curious as to the grind profile of this razor. The ones I have been looking at do not have a symmetrical grind which is why I haven't jumped in yet. I guess it would be a different technique for shaving. Yours looks like a western style folding razor so I wondered if it was ground that way too.
That one looks to be a western grind. The majority of the Japanese folding razors are western grinds, but there are many with asymmetric Japanese grinds as well.Quote:

OK, that makes sense the ones I have been looking at are not folding razors. I really like the look of them (almost miniature Samurai swords :tameshigiri: ) I was wondering if the technique for using them is very different.Quote:

The heel is starting to square off just a bit and will get sharper. A few strokes on the 1k will re shape and make it safer to shave.

Very nice blade, and for that price it is pretty good. The old looks adds manliness to it, so it's not a problem, I'd recommend to still give it a nice polish, and when finished it will look fantastic. I've been looking to buy a nice Japanese straight razor for my collection because I've heard a lot of good things about their blades. When I started out, I've got myself a FEATHER Artist Club SS Straight Razor basing myself on this article about good quality straight razors, because I love the classy old looking straight razors. Right now I want to add one more to my collection, because you can't have many, right?
