Yup. In my opinion it sounds like you would be better off not buying the other hones. It's not just the money, it's also a matter of the time needed to learn how to use them.

Nop, im buying hones, its fun to learn and knowing how to do it yourself. And in my country shipping + honing would be the cost as 1, almost 2 hones. So unless no one is screaming out that i need a 1k hone, im only ordering a 3/8k hone.
While you are at it order a good 30x lighted loupe. It is the most simple way of telling when the bevel is set and ready for a shave test.
P.S.
You might want to order that second razor sooner than later. There are a lot of people on YouTube with crazy ideas as to things you should do with straight razors in order to get the sharp. If you are going with videos, as I had to do, then Gssixgun is about as good as it gets.
There are many paths, but you can only follow one at a time.
RezDog is very right about the number of, I my opinion, very scary "how to hone a razor" vids on the net. His advice to get a decent loupe is very good also. I learned to hone a razor on my own and it was a long and frustrating road. Good luck to you. Be sure to ask questions if need be.

You can ask questions via PM as well. There are many that will be happy to message with you.
Also you have not put your location in your profile and it is easier to find near by help if you do.
like the others have said it depends on the edge , if you have one at all. start with a 1k after bread knifing, than after you have an edge there go to a 4k/8k to finish your edge, you shouldn't 'need ' any other hones
also, if this is your first razor and are looking to learn / teach yourself how to hone, than get it honed by the master so you know what your looking for in an edge when you get it back.
:banghead:
Why would you recommend breadknifing?
Edit: I should clarify so I don't seem like a jerk yet again...
All we know is that the OP still cannot shave with his razor. All he has is a Naniwa 12k hone, at least for now.
It is quite possible that all his edge needs is 50 high pressure strokes followed by 50 progressively lighter strokes on that 12k.
We don't know the condition of his edge.
It might be on the verge of sharp.
It might be far from having the bevels meet.
We don't know.
Maybe a start at a 1k hone is the right option and maybe the 12k is up to the task.
Again we don't know.
We do know that breadknifing is an extreme repair measure.
It should not be a default starting point.
BobH and i just searched for a naniwa 3/8 k combo and cannot find any listed. If the supplier lists them they are sold out.
another approach may be needed and will involve single stones. There is a Norton 4/8 k on Amazon for about $95.
Man, that is embarrassing when you recommend something only to find they may have discontinued it. Sorry.
Bob
Well, I'd bet that the Norton 4/8 is still available.
