When you think you're getting good ...

...at shaving with a str8 , beware . I've been shaving with a str8 for over 3 months , I really enjoy it and I'd like to share a learning experience I had near the end of the first month . I discovered that if I held the razor at a steeper angle , I could get a really close shave :nono: . Then it happened , I sliced myself good at the jawline . Next I sliced my cheek real good , the blood was flowing pretty steady with no end in sight . I managed to stop the bleeding by holding toilet paper over the cuts and finished shaving with a Shick disposeable I had handy . I was a little apprehensive on my next shave and made sure I kept the razor almost flat against my face and everything went fine . I was a little surprised how smooth the razor shaved . The moral of this story is : Keep the raror angle low and pay careful attention to what you're doing with it . Your razor will get your respect , one way or another :D .

Yup ya gotta watch that bugger, it will bite you the second you don't respect it.

You know, just yesterday I was thinking, "God, I'm starting to get some really good results, no razor burn and the shave is taking less and less time - I better not get cocky and watch it". Sure enough today I managed to put a nice little slice into my cheeck. Not even a difficult bit! Chin, jawline and upper lip are all fine, close and irritation free. Typical ;)

You can never let your guard down when using and handling a straight. Its like the guy who works with explosives. After 20 years on the job when he gets a little sloppy that was his last day on the job. You always have to respect what the razor can do to you if it has a mind to.

Pretty common injury when starting out...

Let me guess... you cut in a stright line from the corner of your mouth to the bottome of your jawline?
I gave myself "dovo smile lines" on more than one occasion.

Usually I put the razor too close to the fingers I was using to stretch the skin causing too steep an angle on the blade... spent the next 6 weeks looking like a ventriloquists dummy until the scars faded... all the while telling people how great it is to shave with a straight :eek:

You don't seem too worried about it... which is good... cutting ones face is the reason, I suspect, that safety razors got so popular so quickly.

I got cocky with my straight and caught my lower lip....bled for 20 minutes. Fortunately i heal pretty quick. :w

I try and keep a humble attitude when I pick up a str8 because everytime I felt I had finally got it down I nicked myself. So now I just make believe I am a nooby and try and stay cut free.:D

Ditto. Unfortunately, the scars from the two slices I put on my left cheek more than three months ago are still visible.

Be careful with the straight not just on your face but also with your fingers and hands.

The worst injuries happen not on the face but on your fingers and hands when not paying attention.
