I want to get into straight razor but I'm kinda scare, any tips? And what brand make good stainless steel razor since I'm not a fan of carbon.
Edit: Sorry for not telling you guys my background. I'm a former sushi chef of 5 years and not new to sharpening , I can make an edge razor sharp but never sharpen a razor edge lol.
Welcome to the forum. There are a lot of nice stainless razors out there, all of the vintage no stain, Friodur, rust fre, inox are all pretty good. The Buy/Sell/Trade forum is a good spot to shop, if they are shave ready it is clearly stated, in fact it is rare when they are not shave ready.
I preferred a brand new one, what brand and model of stainless steel razor should I look into?

Rez speaks the truth. Look for vintage and quality name when going stainless.
Good grinds back then and still the best in good condition, IMO.
I want to avoid it for clean/sanitize reason and I wouldn't feel comfortable with a vintage edge if I ever accidentally nick myself.
Boker, Thiers Issard, and Dovo are current producers with an inox line. I have no idea about them other than they exist, as I am into vintage blades.

I'm in agreement with the mentors on this point; I own 2 stainless razors, and the vintage Henckels Friodur shaves circles around the 2012 custom. Hands down, a vintage stainless steel blade will most likely have noticeably better grind quality.
Welcome. New is good but expensive. A vintage in good condition is inexpensive compared to new. If disinfected there should be no worries. All my razors are 120-200 years old. Been straight shaving for about 30 years. I also refurbish and sell vintage which means I test shave each razor before disinfecting. Have shaved with over 300 different razors over the years. Never a problem or worry of one. My suggestion is a good refurbished or restored razor from the B-S-T forum.
If a vintage razor has been restored, all of the steel has been abraded so there is nothing that could possibly be harmful remaining on the blade.
If you rub one with alcohol and a paper towel it is good!
I prefer Jack Daniels! :D
I have a $300 budget for the razor and hopefully it will get me a decent one.
I just honed a new Dovo inox for a member, took a beautiful edge. But it won't beat vintage.!
Too bad you can't just down the shot of Jack Daniels and blow on the edge of the blade for similar results.

Take the shot, breathe into the paper towel, wipe the blade!

There's a do not hone option and the hone my razor option, which one should I pick? Also do I need Jnats or synthetic will do the job, grit progression?

If you want vintage, then the buy/sell/trade section here is a good place.
If you want new, then Ralf Aust, Dovo, Boker, and Thiers Issard are a few that have good entry level razors. I'd go with a Ralf Aust myself.
You will need to have a new one professionally honed. They advertise them as shave ready, but just like a new sushi knife, they are not sharp enough.
Most likely the ones from the buy/sell/trade will already be sharpened and ready to shave.
And sharpening a razor is nothing like sharpening a knife.

Hi and welcome aboard. Synthetic hones are fine and what the majority use. Might pay to watch some YouTube vids by Gssixgun or Lynn Abrams for a idea about honing before jumping in.
Oh, I just like to learn how to maintenance stuffs before I buy it, most likely all I might need is to buy a leather strop.
Check out NOS (New Old Stock; unused vintage blade) Friodur straight razors on EBay. There are several in your price range.

Has been discussed before, you can't get infected by anything from a razor that hasn't been used in the last 48 hours.
Like cudarunner has said, they are easily sanitised with barbicide or pure alcohol. Many here prefer vintage razors, almost all of them are carbon steel. The reason being on average they are better, and cheaper. If you really want a new razor, Ralf Aust are top quality. They are carbon steel, but with proper maintenance will serve you well.
Don't be scared but do respect the razor. Also, razor sharp is a different level than knife sharp. Hope this helps.

As you look at the video from Dovo factory straight production, you will never see a sanitization step in the process. After the sharpening on rotary tbles, thes straights are wrapped in paper, then set in individual boxes that are sealed.Quote:

You've been given some great advise, follow it, We're here to help you out.
Yes, you'll need a strop for sure. Once you get good at stropping, your razor should hold a fine edge for some time.
As to hones, all you need to start is a Naniwa 12k. Just to touch it up when it gets dulled down.
It's uauslly best to get 2 razors. You'll mess one up for sure when you're just starting out. We ALL did.
