the sharper the blade,

the smoother the shave. After a handful of disappointing shaves with my new TI, I sent my razor to Lynn to hone it for me. What a difference! I had the most comfortable, most rewarding shave to date. I touched up only a couple of tough spots with my safety blade, although I could have gotten away without it. And the best part about the shave was no razor burns...none, nada, zilch, zero.
I just wanted to share this with you...I new you'd all understand.

Nice to hear you had a great experience, Diego :)

Just for your information - there are some people who think that there IS such a think as too sharp, and who would trade some smoothness for sharpness (after a certain sharpness is achieved, of course). For example, even some advanced straight shavers say Feather-sharp can lead to weepers and such (it seems to be the standard for sharpness)

As they say sharp is sharp. Too sharp? Poppycock. Some will hone too much and call that too sharp but even a tad or roughness in a really sharp blade, if you think that is the consequence of a really sharp blade, will disappear after a few shaves.

I certainly am no expert on straight razors or how sharp is too sharp. What I can tell you is that this newly honed TI is giving me a great shave. I only wish I could grow my beard more quickly so I could shave everyday.

I have to respectfully disagree with the first part of the post ("too sharp? Poppyckock"), and point out that the second part of your post itself contgradicts the opinion in the first :)

There is such a thing as too sharp - for some people (given their skin, stubble, etc.) This is why people cork Feathers. And this is why people talk about a Feather on Day 1, Day 3, etc. As you say in the second part of the post - after some use the edge won't be "too sharp"

Congrats Diego - Great to Hear!
:HJ Ivo - I think one of the issues with Feathers being too sharp (and DE blade probs in general) is that the blade is WAFER thin. It creates a foil-like edge and nicks and creates uneveness in wirey, tough beards. That is why I prefer really sharp non-full hollow straights and Gem single edge blades (stiffer blade). Just my experience....

Tough beard is relative, of course. I think I have it, and know some others who believe the same (e.g. mparker762). No issues shaving with sharp full hollows. Not so sharp full hollows are a pain, for sure :D

Yet - I am not as arrogant as to state that everybody should be OK with full hollows - maybe some beard is, indeed, too tough for a full hollow. I don't know :shrug:
