Help/advice in the UK

Hi guys,

so I am looking for advice on stropping/pasting regime and where to buy a good strop and pastes in the UK. I have one strop just now, which I have nicked, obviously....still learning :aargh: so I was thinking I would try to fix it up and maybe use if as a final paste before a clean strop?

So, I was thinking I would maybe get a 4 sided paddle strop with pastes, a new clean finishing strop and perhaps some chromium ox paste as the finisher? Anyone able to advise? I would be buying in the UK hopefully. I work away on rotation so it just makes sense to get it all in the UK so I can arrange it all in a short as possible time frame. Where do the UK buyers source their stuff? I have only used "invisible edge" as that is where I bought my razor from.

Any help/advice much appreciated.

Also, anyone on here from the UK hone professionally? Even though my razor came "shave ready" it tugged a little, which mellowed after a few shaves and stropping. Is this normal? I reckon I will send to someone who really knows what they are doing so I can have a benchmark on what it should really feel like to have a shave ready edge

By the way I am in the central belt in Scotland and am willing to travel if there is anyone around who can show me the ropes, stropping, pasting, care of kit etc...I will thank with beer tokens a plenty :)

Shavers delight also has some cheap strops and pastes, never used them though Strop Dressing Leather Strops

In a pinch you could make a good newspaper strop if you need it or your jeans, when I did my hitches out of the country I found a way, but really since I learned to strop well, I can do a 60 day hitch with nothing but leather, and now I have my own trailer I can keep what I need for keeping an edge, but I lived out of a bag many years with less

my hitches are 35/35 mate, no problem with weigh allowance and all I bring is food and spare underwear plus hand carry so issues with bringing my shave kit. I have plenty of space :)

Good advice using newspaper and jeans.......

When I first started shaving with a straight razor I was disabled, unable to work and no pay check, had to do everything on the cheap. So, I relied on newspaper (with plenty of black print, large solid areas work best) and I made a 3" x 12" paddle strop out of wood and glued 2 layers of denim on it. This is the combo I used for the first few months I shaved with a straight razor. Eventually I was able to locate a vintage linen/leather strop which had to be cleaned and reconditioned......using a real strop spoiled me!
