Default I am officially in the game

    Hi guys

First I would like to said thanks to all the members that welcome me to this great forum.
In my introduction post I was a wannabe but as the title of the thread said I am officially in the game, this morning I went to pick up a Bambola I got in a sort of blind bougth since the pic of the seller were very bad and I could not identify the razor, end up it was a Bambola 205 not in the best condition but as a lover of vintage stuff and knowing it is a good razor I guess is a humble start in the hobby (if is wright call it that way, please correct me if I wrong).
In a conversation with the seller he told me about another razor he still have some were, he finally found a Gebr Weyersberg Corneta 6000, although it was in a worst condition than the Bambola I decided to get it too.
He also gave me some empty boxes with the promise of call me if he find another hide treasure.
So three days after my first attempt I end up with two Straight (restaurable) razors, a stropper and a few empty boxes to complete the set.
A quick phone pic for your consideration I will load up more detailed ones soon.
My plan is restore the razors (I am a kind of handyman) and in the meanwhile look for a professional honer in my area (I already start the search and there are some possibilities) .
Please feel free to do comments and suggestions and if it possible where can I find a good "how to" restoration info.
    Thanks in advance

    Roberto

You are off to a good start, those are high quality Solingen razors! They should take a nice edge.

Make sure whoever hones your razor is known for honing razors. I have witnessed too many horror stories of guys taking them to a knife sharpener doing irreparable damage on a grinding belt.

Thanks for the observation, yes the profile in both of them look good as you said, they sit center in between the scales, the spines look good too not noticeable honing wear although there is some superficial rust are some pity marks in the Corneta.
Under the magnification lens I just appreciated a very small frown in one of them (as far as my ignorance can tell), one hairline crack in one Bambola's scale at the back pin near the tang.
The Corneta has a black kind of patina over the face, should I sand it and polish it?
Well this is the best description I can give to you guys soon I will be uploading detailing pics

I suggest that you try some metal polish like Maas or Autosol or Flitz before sanding. They will remove any surface oxidation without scratching the metal as severely as sand paper. Whatever scratches you add in the clean up, you will likely want to remove eventually so try to minimize it as much as possible,

Starting with the least abrasive material means you will be able to judge how far you want to go in removing rust, patina and pitting without causing excessive wear on the blade.

Yes, I'll second that. I'd just use some metal polish on the blades first to see where you are at before I'd do any sanding. Hairline cracks can be repaired.

Those are both thinly-ground. I think best to take above advise and use polish at this time.
Getting them acceptably clean and you shaving is the priority. Plenty of time for learning restoration later.
Now how to get them honed ? An old barber is a great idea. Someone with the proper hone and knowledge.
OR, if you can find a coticule or barber's hone, we may be able to coach you from here.

Hasn't shaved yet, but has two razors, a paddle strop, and several razor boxes already. I see a shaving acquisition disorder developing.
