    Welcome from SE Washington State.

As has been mentioned, unless you are in the Witness Protection Program; please include your location as there may be experienced help nearby.

While this age old art can be learned by online reading, having hands on help is a real blessing.

While learning to properly hone a razor is the last thing you need to worry about--Check out this video as it shows how helpful having experienced help is.

    Again,

    Welcome

Welcome from Florida. Do you have any equipment yet? I know you said DE, do you have a cup and brush? A SR yet? Once you get one you will also need a strop for certain. Once you have been doing it for a while you may find you "need" several of each. As mentioned post pics if you do. They are a hit here. Again welcome and take your time there's a lot to learn but it's a fun journey.

Also, when you do get one you'll want it to be shave ready. This means different things in different circles. To some, even manufacturers, it means they have run it over a wheel but not hand honed it. There is quite a difference. If you don't buy one new, as suggested, check the BST (buy ,sell, trade) section here. There are a number of good vendors here who have good razors at good prices and you can be assured they are truly shave ready.

    I agree with Paul.

We like pics! It is a lot easier to get a question answered if we can see the object.

Have fun. Go slow. Read a lot of the beginner section.
I also fall into the raising of food. We have a garden out back and have planted as many fruits, vegtables and trees as we could with the space we had.

Location added. San Francisco Bay Area. (Hayward, Ca for now) for those who know that area.

    Welcome!
I appreciate the support. I do try to learn as much as I can, it only shows I have plenty left to learn.

    Yes, I have some equipment:

Brushes: several badger brushes. Pure and Fine.
Mugs: Had a 1920s old mug that I used for years. Unfortunately it broke on me. Bought a Fendrihan porcelain apothecary mug to hold me over until i find something unique again.
Razors: Just picked up a Friodur 6/8 that was honed and shave ready
    Strop: In process

Pretty much all my Black Friday/Cyber Monday shopping has been shave related stuff. I'll post some pics once things arrive.

Welcome, sounds like your off to a good start! If your razor is truly shave ready then don't strop it before using it the first time. You'll want to know what a shave ready razor feels like just in case you damage the edge with your noob stropping.(don't worry, you wouldn't be the first one) do some practicing with a table knife before using the real thing. enjoy your new hobby and take your time.
