A couple techinque questions.

Hello everyone, another newbie here.

I did my third shave today, and I am having the hardest time doing the left side of my face. If I used my right hand to hold the razor (this is on a with the grain stroke) I can't see, if I use my left... well I feel very insecure. I did manage my cheek and sideburn with my left, which I think is a good step. Do most people use only one hand to shave their whole face, or do some use both?

I have realize that the same handhold for all parts of the face doesn't result in the best shave so I've been trying out different ones, but am still being completely defeated with the portion under my jaw on the sides. I can do under my chin fine, but you know that ridge along your jaw... I think you fellows know where I mean! Honestly I think most the right and the left sides in this situation are very difficult. I cannot pull the skin up high enough to get it and I have almost not stretch down, so I'm not sure what to do.

Tips would be most welcome, thank you!

Practice with the left from the start - it will feel as normal as the right in a month or less! Use it to brush teeth too, hold your fork when eating - very soon you'll be able to use it for shaving without trepidation

For the area you describe - I combine stretch with tilting head back and / or to the opposite side, depending on how I feel... Have you seen any of Lynn's shaving videos? Or at least Dr. Moss' photo-tutorial?

I like your suggestion about using my left hand more, and I think I will call it an experiment and see how it works!

I have not see Lynn's videos but I have read Dr. Moss's book a couple times and watched the SE segment from the B&B dvd on youtube.

Ditto. That's what I did for the two weeks prior to getting my razor, and I have been shaving with both hands from day one.

I have crazy issues when I try to change thing up between hands, so I just worked on different ways to do it all with one hand... Not the best way to go and practice does make perfect. However I seem to be hardwired weird so I'm not going to push the issue :p

Start practicing doing other things with your left as well it will increase your dexterity and improve your shaving abilities. You might want to consider taking up juggling (shameless plug ;) ). Juggling requires the use of both hands and the ability to use each hand independently. Plus it increases the gray matter in the brain and leads to better cognitive skills (scientifically proven).

Even if you don't take up juggling, start using screw drivers, etc. with your left hand in non-critical situations to help improve the independence and dexterity.

I'll second the juggling practice. I would advise starting with the left straight away. Its a lot easier in the long run. I spent a long time figuring out my best angles and strokes to make and it does depend on the individual but you have nothing to lose by trying it.......apart from a nose.
To be honest I have had more accidents with my steady hand being overconfident that with my weak hand being unsure.

Haha, well anything that could potentially make me less dumb can't hurt! I have been using my left though I really feel dumb with it, which I'm sure will improve. Even brushing my teeth with my left feels very clunky. I don't know how to juggle, especially nothing on fire!

I shave with both hands from day one too. The more you practice, the more you'll be able to do shave properly.

Stick with it, once you get the left hand working well, try shaving with only your right!

You'll wonder how the hell you managed!

You'll get there and then the tricky cross face ATG and XTG strokes will come a calling!
