Under the nose...?

Well I've shaved 7 times now with a straight razor! I'm doing very good on my sideburn area and neck. The problem areas for me are under my nose. What's the best way to shave that area?

Another thing I notice is that the beard on my chin and under my nose seems to be a lot thicker than other areas. The razor seems to kind of "catch" on the beard as I've tryed to shave those areas. I believe I have my razors are sharp and just received a Dovo that Lynn had honed. It does seem a little better with the Lynn honed Dovo but still a lot different than the rest of my face.

I can't help you with under the nose because I have a moustache however I do find that the acid test of a razors keanness is going around and under my chin. When I sharpen my razors thats the place I shave first. If the razor slices right through that area (the hair not the chin) I know I've done a good job honing however even if there is a bit of drag there very often the rest of my face will still be BBS and easy to shave. What you don't want is any pulling in that area. That would probably mean the razor needs more time on the hone or pasted strop.

I'm sure someone will come along with some good advice for under the nose.

this is an area that was a trouble spot for me as well. there is a technique where you hold the blade against the underside of you nose and roll it down your upper lip. keep the spine against the underside of your nose. this is the only spot where i apply pressure while straight shaving. someone posted the name, and i found a video on youtube showing the technique. sorry, but it is ?french? word and i don't remember the name, just how to do it. someone else will post in with the name. once you get it, you can refine your technique. good luck.

Thank you so much for posting that and also thanks to Alexander for his efforts in producing and posting the video for us.

This is a difficult technique but rather strangely I realised that I was doing this without even knowing what it was!! So now I know :).

i wish that i was that lucky. would have saved me a couple of transfusions. i do not look good with upper lip hair. i really can't call what i get a mustasche.:nono:
