I have been considering adding one stainless to my rotation just to see how it works out. I figure it would be harder to sharpen, but would hold an edge long enough to be worth it. Also I have to admit a major factor is that this one is so dom pretty:nj

I have 2 Limited edition dovo's which my g/f kindly refers to as Ray's razor ... Both of them shave every bit as well as carbon steel .. I've had no problem touching them up at all

I have a Friodur and a Hess stainless. I like them alot. I would try one. I think that the holding the hone might be overrated though. They don't seem to hold on much longer to me.
Here is the Hess in a SOTD pic. And a couple of other razors with the Friodur. It has the orange scales

Good to know, I think I was going by my old experience with ss knives. I could always get a great edge on carbon steel knives, but ss was a pain.
SS takes a little more work to do and it does hold the hone longer. Don't get me wrong but it isn't going to be a huge difference I think. I think the rest resistance is the greatest feature.
The "micarta" razor you are showing there is one of my favourites in my rotation, great blade ...and wwithout a doubt one of the most beautifull ones to look and hold...feels great in your hand.

Couple of hints on getting her sharp if you get this one...
First let me say I think this Dovo is my most wicked sharp razor in my collection...In fact I am very gentle with her, when she comes out to dance... The razor is pretty finicky though, I found that this is a razor that if you want the most out of the blade, which is a super fine grind, you almost have to use a pasted strop (unless you are the Hone God)....
Once I thought I had a great edge, I shaved and she was basically a good shaving razor, when I took her across a .50 and .25 pasted strop.... WOW huge difference, yes of course, there will be somebody who will now post that the razor wasn't honed to it's full potential..... well my friend put this one on a hone get it as sharp as you possible can then strop with some paste and it will open your eyes....
Now the bad news!!!! This is by no means even close to being my best shaving razor,,, For some reason no matter how sharp you get these new razors they are just not as smooth feeling as a vintage blade... (then again that might just be in my head)

I have a Froidur, and I don't have any difficulty getting it sharp. In fact I believe it's much easier to sharpen than the average Wade&Butcher.
edge retention is the same... It's not the type of steel so much as the hardness.
but no one can deny that stainless does polish up really nice.
what everybody else said. i have stainless Dovo's and henkels... they all took a little extra lovinging on the 8k norton and Hunsrueck to be very good shavers... then a little trip down the 1 and .5 micron diamond paste paddles made them smoother sice the first honing they have only been touched up on the paste.
