Now I'm wondering with a dovo quality blade how much honing am I going to need and is there anything else i should be aware of before I start?
Yes, that you should get a honemiester to hone it because you won't be able to do it without alot of practice first and a very raw face. Learn on a second razor. Get your strop from Tony. an arkansas is not the recommended finish stone at all and for that price I would look more toward a chinese 12k and do you have a decent brush and good soaps?
+1 for Topher's comments. The Norton combination 4/8K stone is the standard. When you get a new blade honed by a honemeister, you have a benchmark as to what the razor should be.
Yes agree with all the post above get your first one honed for you. I will do it for free. And then you have a benchmark to judge how you do when you start honing. That blade will hone up great. Also agree skip the Ark and spend a little more and get a Belgium Coticule

+1 on the above, let Taz hone your blade. You will be pleased.
Be aware that the Norton will need to be lapped first. Very soon there will be a Lapping 101 FAQ that will show you how to do that.
