Just one second of inattention

I had been pretty proud of myself lately. I've been shaving with a straight for a bit over a month, and have seen steady improvement - the shaves getting smoother, closer, and with less irritation and burn, and the nicks getting farther and farther between. In fact, I hadn't really cut myself since my first shave, when, while admiring my manly image in the mirror, I moved the razor lengthwise along my chin. I've had a few nicks and a weeper or two, but really not many - less, in fact, than I used to get from the Mach3.

So, tonight, I come in from work looking forward to my shave time. I hit the shower, prepped, and stropped my razor for the night, an 8/8ths Fred Broeker spike (this is my first straight, and the one I cut myself with before). First pass WTG, everything is great. The extra time on the strop really makes a difference. Lather up again. Second pass, ATG. At this point I'm thinking that this is my best shave yet. Not quite BBS everywhere, but close enough. Just let me get those few problem children on my chin, and I'll finally have a shave worthy of posting in SOTD.

Shoulda seen it coming. As I was switching hands to get one last spot, I somehow managed to stab myself in the chin. Best cut I've had yet. Didn't really hurt, but bled to beat the band. In fact, as I type this, I still have a hunk of toilet paper stuck on my chin.

Oh, well. I consider it a valuable lesson learned. One must respect that blade ALL the time, especially when one starts to feel comfortable with it.

Next time I'll do better, I promise. Oh, and by the way...it was still one heck of a good shave.

Welcome to SRP......and don't feel bad, my first major cut was done almost the same way - except I managed to stab the end of my nose with my spike tip!

Just two words for you brother...Spatial Awareness. :roflmao

Sorry to hear that you cut yourself, but it really sounds like you are getting closer to where you want to be with your razor. Comfy, and getting a good shave.

Don't feel bad. A while back when I was shaving my burns I slipped the blade inside my ear and sliced the little bowl area of my ear. Well, I should say ears as I did it to both of them. I now have little scars on both:nono: The most embarrassing thing is shoving a styptic pencil inside your ear:o

It seems to me the most embarrassing would be having to say, when people ask you what happened, " I cut myself shaving ":roflmao:roflmao:roflmao

Really does happen to the best of us on occasion, brother!!:tu

I have a similar post..... with similar results!

When asked what happened, I just say I made a comment to my wife about her weight and the cut was the result!

Those who know my wife, know it is a plausable story!


The other (that is partially accurate) is I simply say I was in a knife fight. I don't share that the fight was between me and the guy in the mirror!

Could have been worse....could have cut yourself with your Mach 3. At least cutting yourself with a straight razor is manly!

Cuts can happen, usually when not paying attention
or shaving with a dull razor.

It's not so bad when you tell people that your shaving instrument is sharp enough to slice your earlobe through and not feel a thing.

That nanosecond of inattention...gets my attention every time.

My worst has been while Restoring Razors so far, took a nice chunk right out of my finger (BTW that new powder blood stopper does work almost as well as CA)

I agree, I use it for clipping pets nails. I had to use some on myself after my first shave.:w
It sounds like everything else is going good for you. Keep on getting after it.

It's amazing how fast it happens. I wear my dueling scars proudly.

Is there another scar on the left side of your chin that almost mirrors that one?

I can see a faint line there. The beauty of these is that they are like surgical cuts and should heal with only a very faint line.

Good eye !!

That scar is from the cut I got from my first shave.

Now I have a matched set ! :D :D :D

I think I stopped cutting my self after about 6 months. Before that I cut myself about 1 in 10 shaves. That said I cut myself yesterday, not bad but the first time in a while.
The most embarrassing shaving related cut wasn't my face - I didn't look when changing hands and gripped the edge with my thumb! Duh!
I also managed to cut a chunk out of my hand with a dremel whilst restoring. It was just me being stupid with the tools and not being careful enough!
