For the many virtues. . .

. . . I think a straight will best suit me. I'm up for any guidance I can get. As a master of an old art yearns to pass it to the next generation, I hope some may find joy in helping me thus: I have little cash, I travel as an occupation, and not in the cushy, I travel in a beamer kind of way- - but a man needs a shave in this world. I think this art suits me.
So will you aid me? I will teach the virtues, if that's any consolation. I need a razor, a strop, a good honing stone never hurts, and a crash course. Any help?:shrug:

Tell us a little more about you. who are you? what do you do?. what does travel in a beamer kinda way mean? a little more background would not hurt.

Sorry, I guess I was being vague. I'm a young guy, 23, and I like to travel as a busking musician/whatever it takes. I travel by whatever means, whether hitch-hiking, bussing, or even tramping if the need arises. I'm interested in the straight art because of the constant utility whatever the circumstance. I'd be interested to get handy with the art, and am overjoyed to find a community such as this. I am just seeking wisdom, and guidance, and tools; hoping y'all enjoy an eager subject such as myself:)

I guess a little info about me may help: I am a writer/musician/truth-seeker. Right now I am in the south avoidng the cold winter months, and hope to travel extensively this year. I write plays, screenplays, prose, poetry, whatever, and songs. A real old-world tramp, one might say. Always up to learn something new, always down to play in the parties of old:)

I would start with the guides in the library section of this forum, Christopher Moss's guide at shavemyface.com and the interactive straight razor guide at badgerandblade.com. They will at least give you a taste of what you would be getting into and the basics. If you are interested in free stuff then it would probably be a good idea to sign up for the "give aways" in the newbies section. Lynn's DVD is one of the best sources of straight razor information that you can get and will answer most of the questions that you have and many that you don't yet have.

I think he means that we give him free stuff and by this, through him, we learn to be virtuous. I would normally hold my tongue for a little bit just to be certain, but this sounds like a load of horse manure! I could be wrong though!

busking musician, I do some busking myself mostly magic. where have you busked? where are your favoite pitches?

wherever there's foot traffic. a guitar and a unique look can turn heads anywhere. I like tourist towns, but for now New Orleans is definitely off the list. People fight for busking territory there. They're crazy. I'll be in Long beach this spring, I have high hopes. It's also cool to put a string band on a random sidewalk. I imagine magic is harder- but I've seen it- - in New Orleans:)

Well its different in magic you have to draw a croud and keep them till the end of the show when you have to deliver your hatline. If they dont like the show they dont pay, then you gotta deal with the man and other buskers wanting your pitch. But its fun! you ever busk key west?

To clear misunderstandings, I meant to say I am sure I will teach the virtue of straight razor shaving to others eager to learn. I'm sure once I build up some gear I'll end up giving alot of it away, too. Sometimes a potential student can only offer the master his devotion and his willingness to continue the art by teaching. Hope I didn't stomp any hooves, I'm just as new to manners as I am straight razors:w
